Summer Schools

Unlock the World of Sports Management:
Join My International Summer School in Berlin!

I'm thrilled to extend an invitation to join our unique 2-week course in sports management, hosted in collaboration with my academic partner, the University of Europe for Applied Sciences, right here in Berlin. This program is designed to offer deep insights into the realm of sports, as well as event management, both within the German framework and on a global scale.

Seize the opportunity to become a part of a diverse group of international and intercultural participants. Engage in an extensive array of activities, including seminars, workshops, and excursions around Berlin and its surrounding areas, all while immersing yourself in the dynamic field of sports management.

I can say that the Sport Management Summer School fullfilled my expectations. I learned a lot from the experts, owners and directors of the different Clubs - of different sports - we visited. Also, our participation in different activities - as presentations, group jobs - was a very good combination with the classes.

A Gateway to Sports and Event Management

Week 1

The 2-week course will start with an overview of global sport organisations and strategic management in sports and continues with internationalisation of sports.  In order to discover and discuss different business models in sports, we use the Business Model Canvas and apply the model to different sports entities. The aspect of Quality Management in sports will be delivered through the business case of ASPIRE Academy of Sports in Qatar. The group then has a look at Sporting Events and a case study of the 2017 World Championships in Ice-Hockey in Germany, Berlin Marathon and FIFA World Cup 2022. After visiting the Mercedes Benz Arena in Berlin and a sponsorship workshop, there will be excursions to football and basketball clubs in Berlin.

Week 2

The second week starts with finances and law. We have a look at innovative ways to fund sport events, clubs and federations through crowd financing or investing and get an insight into the field of sport & media rights. Throughout the second week we will explore key activities of sport organisations and events. Further excursions to professional football clubs and international sport events, give students the opportunity to talk to club managers and event organisers.
Delivery
Classes take place Monday to Friday from approx. 9am to 4pm. Classroom lectures will be enhanced by relevant excursion in and around the module locations. Visiting lectures from the field will share their knowledge and expertise in the area. Bevor the start of the summer school, all participants will be invited to a group on edubreak®SPORTCAMPUS where Ralf Iwan will present the summer school topics in keynote speeches. All participants can present their questions and ideas to the subject via video. These will then be incorporated into the respective program items and workshops. During the summer school, students will also use video as a medium for interviews, presentations or excursions, as well as for reflection. In addition to this, blog entries will be used in the online campus in form of group work / workshops.
