Introduction to Sportmanagement

Football is one of the most popular sports in the world. One of the reasons football is so popular is because it only requires a ball and a flat open area to play.
In this year's course "football sport" we approach the sportmanagement and the management of football entities from the sporting aspect first. What are the sporting requirements to become a good - maybe even professional - football player? We look into the talent identification processes of football academies from major clubs such as Manchester United or Bayern Munich and speak to youth and junior coaches of major clubs. We then have a look at the club and federation structures of major football markets in Europe, like Germany, England, Spain, Italy and France. A closer look at the business model allows us to differentiate and cluster some clubs. Finally we look at the major events in football and the FIFA World Cup as well as the UEFA Champions League.
At the end of the course we will have a guest-lecturer from one major German football club.
